About Me
I’m a software engineer in his early 60s, enjoying many different hobbies in my time off, including swimming, woodworking, motorcycling, and kayaking. I have started this blog to document a kayaking adventure trip which I have been dreaming of for a long time now: paddling down the Rhine river and up the Elbe river from my current home town Baden/Switzerland to my former home town Hamburg/Germany.
My current plan is to embark on this trip in the summer of 2027. I have already started preparing, and one of the preparatory steps will be a short, 2-day “dress rehearsal” trip this summer (2026) to try out my gear and check for what I’ve been missing. My plan is to also cover this trip in this blog, to verify that my tech stack setup is actually working for updating the blog during the trip.
I normally only do day trips on the rivers of Switzerland (Reuss, Limmat, Aare, …). The Baden-Hamburg route will also include sections crossing the North Sea and paddling upstream the Elbe river (which luckily has tidal upstream currents twice a day), so there will definitely be some new adventures in store for me.
